Maple Cinnamon Granola

Many store bought granolas are high in sugar, high in fat, and full of a bunch of unnecessary ingredients. The ones that are healthier are incredibly expensive.

You can make your own granola at home for a fraction of the cost and with only a few simple ingredients. All you need is a bowl and something to stir everything with. It comes together quickly and bakes in under 30 minutes.

I like mine chunky, but you can break it into smaller chunks. That is the beauty of making your own!

I am using a minimal amount of real maple syrup here, but just enough to give it enough sweetness without being overly sweet. Plus, the maple syrup allows the dry mixture to stick together.

This is the perfect addition to a yogurt bowl, but this is good enough to eat straight out of the jar! Do store in an airtight glass container for 1-2 weeks, but it may not even last that long!

Enjoy!

Cuisine American
Servings 8 1/4 cup per serving

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • measuring cups
  • sheet pan
  • mixing spoon or whisk

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 300℉
In a mixing bowl, add melted butter, syrup, and vanilla. Stir together.
  • Add in the oats, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until the mixture is completely coated with the wet ingredients.
  • On a sheet pan lined with parchment paper, spread the granola in an even layer. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Careful not to over bake because the sugar can easily burn.
  • Cool on the sheet pan COMPLETELY, then break into chunks.
  • Store in an airtight glass container in the pantry for 1-2 weeks.

Notes

Rolled or quick oats both work in this recipe.
I HAVE NOT tested it with steel cut oats.
I like cinnamon so I add quite a bit, but you can adjust to your taste.
I have tested this recipe with honey instead of maple, but the honey does not give me the crispy texture that I like.
I have also tested this recipe with coconut oil, but I like the nutty flavor of the butter.
